Some exercises on irregular verbsNow let's do some exercises on irregular verbs of the second class. Remember that all irregular verbs, except for the verb 'sein' (to be), are only irregular in their singular forms. The plural is always(!) regular. You know how to conjugate the four new auxiliaries "müssen", "sollen", "haben" and "wollen". Since they are all auxiliaries, you can use them in exactly the same way as you used "möchten" and "werden" before. Therefore, reconsider the following rule from lesson 3:
Exercise Use the correct form of the given irregular verb to form a complete sentence. Example: Ich + sollen + den Tisch decken. Ich soll den Tisch decken.
Exercise Anne and Herr Becker are coming back from the supermarket and noticed that they forgot plenty of things. Anne has to go to a close by grocery store with her brother Daniel to buy the missing things. In the meantime, their parents Frau and Herr Becker are starting to prepare the food. Complete the following sentences, filling into the blank field the correct forms of the verbs/auxiliaries in parentheses. Example: Was ______(must) wir kaufen? Was müssenwir kaufen? ![]() 1) Ihr (must) Äpfel (apples) und Birnen (pears) (to buy). ![]() 2) Anne (to want) mit Daniel in den Supermarkt (to go). ![]() 3) Herr Becker (shall) den Tisch decken. ![]() 4) Anne und Daniel (must) auch Nudeln (to buy). ![]() 5) Annes Mutter (must) später das Essen kochen. ![]() 6) Die Beckers (the Beckers) (have) Gäste (guests). ![]() previous page
